Once upon a time I went through a period of illness. It was
a very long time ago. Even now though, moments of that experience stay with me
and very occasionally I think back to that time and how it partly moulded me into
the person I am now.
During that time when I thought all the things that I have subsequently
achieved were unlikely to happen I was given a stone…a small piece of green adventurine
by a good friend who’d just gone to Uni. I carried that stone me with for ages
and collected a few more along the way. In theory, adventurine is a stone that
brings good luck – I guess it did for me. Every type of stone has a meaning –
you can see what they mean here.
I chose most of mine for their colours and the way they felt
in my hand rather than for their meaning.
Interestingly, when I was pregnant with both my girls I felt
drawn to seek out my stones again and carried a piece of rose quartz in my bag.
Rose quartz is a stone of unconditional love.

ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful post. I collect pebbles for their colour, shape and how they feel in my hand. It's got to feel just right. I often have one of two lurking in my bag. Or my coat pocket. Or the car...

That's interesting. I do love the idea of things having meanings: names, flowers and so on. It's something I'd like to read a bit more about. My knowledge of stones goes as far as being aware my birth stone is emerald...

ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this story. I have a few little items like that too. One of them is a carved stone fish, given to me by a work colleague when I was a brand-new teacher and finding every day harder than the one before! Yikes, that was a hard phase in my life. I'm really glad your stone helps you and reminds you of how far you have come.

ReplyDeleteIt's always fascinating to read about the things that really have meaning for people. Somwhere I too have a bag of semi-precious stones so I totally understand their appeal, For myself I am always drawn to aventurine and amber, but your rose quartz is so pretty :)
