January saw me finish my intended read. I really
enjoyed Maggie O’Farrell’s “Instructions for a Heatwave”. It was an interesting
book to read during our coldest spell of the winter. All of the descriptions of
the warm summer of 1976 (which I have vague memories of, a washing up bowl of water
and the grass under my three year old feet) were totally at odds with January’s
weather.
I didn't manage anything else, other than the
usual reading of recipe books at bedtime.
February has gotten off to a good start on
the reading front. I’m aiming to read 2 books this month; “Because She Loves Me”
by Mark Edwards and “Sleep Tight” by Rachel Abbott.
Let’s see how I get on.
Joining in with Laura.
Two books a month sounds about right - and I'm a sucker for bedtime recipe perusing too.
ReplyDeleteI don't remember that famous summer (being only one at the time) but there must be a photo or two somewhere. I read Instructions for a Heatwave last year and enjoyed it. Not hugely so but it did keep my interest. I preferred The Vanishing of Esme Lennox...
Have a good week.

I am steaming ahead with on the reading front this month, but not with my chosen read for February. I keep picking it up and putting it back down again. I was 6 in 1976, and remember my Mum stood outside the back door when the rain finally came!
ReplyDeleteNice to see you hear again

I meant to ask, have you read any other O'Farrell novels? Esme Lennox is a particularly good one.

I am on a run with reading/listening. I am not familiar with Mark Edwards and look forward to finding out more. x
ReplyDeleteI would really like to read the Maggie O'Farrell book, I've seen it on several blogs now. I'll see if my library system has it. I'm happy to hear you're reading so much, good for you.
ReplyDeleteThe O'Farrel novel sounds like a good read. Will keep an eye out for that and the recommended Esme Lennox in charity & second hand bookshops. I'm currently reading Started Early, Took my Dog by Kate Atkinson. It's been ages since I've last read a novel but I'm enjoying this one so wil definitely finish it. Looking forward to hearing more about your books this February. X
ReplyDeleteI like the sound of the Maggie O'Farrell book I remember the heatwave of 76 well :). Thank you for sharing.
