Small, nice things
:: Our school holidays finished and we're back into the usual routines. It was a holiday of great action and inactivity in just the right amounts. Now I know we're back as I've already tackled the first week of uniform ironing. We're in gingham territory now.
:: This week we took a trip to YSP where we saw the KAWS sculptures. It was a beautiful day. I found them intriguing. LittleR loved to imitate their poses!
:: My camellia is in flower again. Just beautiful.
:: Carrot cake muffins complete with icing. No nuts (but the biggest girl still doesn't like these!). No sultanas/currants/raisins (my nemesis). Yum.
:: New book, new obsession.
:: Our living room has been decorated. We've moved some of the toys out and rearranged them in other areas of the house, We chose a warm pewter grey for the wall colour. It's such a huge change from before. The room seems so much bigger, this is likely to be the lack of toys! I'm in love with the curtains. We're now looking out for some large prints to go on the wall above the sofa...it's not 'finished' but I'm good at works in progress.
:: In tidying up for the living room to be decorated I went through a large number of photos. I had to do a double take on one. It turns out my youngest girl is the image of my brother at the same age. They pose for a picture in the same way. At that moment I really wished she could have met him. It was lovely and very surprising all at once.
:: Can you believe it snowed yesterday and we're due a light dusting overnight. Goodness me Spring it's nearly May!! Plus travel chaos tomorrow.
:: Still at least the tulips are coming.

Frosty business
Well the festivities are (mostly) over. The ABO managed a swap and didn't have to go back to work until the 27th, which was lucky due the snow! even so the journey the next day took ages...I really dislike the M62! Hopefully this will be his last out of base for a while...
I've been trying to assimilate the new toys into the house so that I'm not stepping on it (duplo/lego), pushing it out of the way of an almost 2 year old (playmobil) or finding it stuck to me (mosaic jewels).
The days have been cold and crisp. We stayed at home yesterday not leaving the house. The roads hadn't been gritted and I couldn't face slip sliding with BigR and a buggy! e didn't need to go out. It was cosy. We made loom band bracelets whilst LittleR napped. The girls played without too much refereeing. I didn't even have to rely on my faithful cbeebies baby sitter. Today we went out and did a few little errands. It was such a lovely day but it did take more than 15 minutes to de-ice the car.
Tomorrow we go to collect the ABO and then we start our holiday. I've got an extra week off after BigR goes back to school. We're planning some nice days but I think we'll end up doing some house maintenance stuff too. So it's likely to be a little bit quiet around here over the next couple of weeks. Then LittleR is 2. Time really does fly. Especially when you're having fun.
Thanks for visiting my blog in 2014. Wishing everyone health and happiness in 2015.

September
I love this time of year. The
smell of freshly sharpened pencils (yes that was a “You’ve Got Mail” quote). I really
get the New Year feeling, must be the academic in me never letting go of the start
of the school term! It’s been a part of my life for 36 years! And now...it’s
going to be part of BigR’s life. Today is BigR’s last day at nursery and
tomorrow afternoon she goes to school for the first time. By rights I should be
at work but I’m at home as LittleR was unwell yesterday. Still the illness only
last 8 hours and she was wolfing down food yesterday afternoon. Back to normal (but obeying the 48 hours illness rule).
Big R is ready for school. More than ready. She’s
5 in less than a week but...all of a sudden I am not. I think I’m mourning the
loss of our flexibility more than anything. Wondering if she'll be OK (I know she will). Still I guess it’s a big change for
us all. And she can’t wait to be able to read herself. So today I had a moment
of what it’ll be like when the ABO is on earlies and BigR is at school. I spent
the morning with LittleR and we did ‘jobs’. She’s good company! Loves pointing
out babies – ‘Baby! Shhhh’ and anything emblazoned with ‘Minnie’, ‘Kitty’ or ‘Peppa’.
We went to Ikea to get a few organising
bits and a chair for LittleR to (hopefully) stop the squabbling over who gets
to sit on the chair. I love this time of year to clear stuff out and get stuff
done. So with that in mind, I treated myself to a new notebook and some paper tapes
there too (it would’ve been rude not to) but managed not to overdo it too much! We had a coffee (me) and some cucumber snacks and animal biscuits (LittleR, oh OK and me) Then, we stopped off to get some new bedding for BigR’s big girl bed.
Now LittleR is napping and when I’ve
finished this I’m going to do some of the necessary domestic jobs (clear away lunch, hang out the washing, tidy up
the toys again)...and arrange my dishwasher tablets into their new container.
That really pleases me.
