Although this is a physical object the precious thing contained
within is not. I love all types of glass. This is not really very useful with two
small children around the house. We should invest in some very high up shelves,
especially now LittleR is perfecting her skills as a mountaineer.
That aside, I still love glass. This glass bottle was sent
to me by a very close friend. She moved to New Zealand 10 years ago. I have no
idea where all that time has gone. In the most recent of times our phone calls
have dwindled. It’s hard to keep that connection when there’s a 13 hour time
difference and you have so much happening in your life; me managing family and
work and she managing building her own
home.
Our friendship is more than phone calls though. I know that
if I needed her at any moment to listen or to vent to, she’d be there. Contained
within that bottle is our distilled friendship. Last month, Sarah talked of
transient treasures, which made me think. This precious thing cannot be seen but
is there. She’s often in my thoughts and every time I pass the front door, in
or out of the house, I see the bottle and think of her and her friendship.

Oh, I do like the idea of the distilled friendship. I'd never really thought of things in that way but it's a lovely sentiment and one I'll apply to some of my Precious Things too.
ReplyDeleteIt can be difficult to maintain a friendship when you're far apart and life takes over, but I'm glad you value this particular relationship enough to know you can always just pick up where you left off. That's always the sign of a good one.
Thanks for taking part again, especially at such a hectic time of year.

Such beautiful sentiments and memories. Happy Christmas! xx
ReplyDeleteGorgeous post! And an idea that really resonates with me having just reconnected with a lovely friend I hadn't seen for a long time. We just picked up were we left off. I love that. Enjoy your weekend. Bee xx
ReplyDeleteIt's really beautiful and all the more special because of the meaning behind it and the friendship which endures across the miles. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful, and so much more than just a perfume bottle. I love glass as well, there's something very special about it. CJ xx
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful precious thing, filled as it is with memories and friendship xxx
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful and it's even more precious because of the friendship and memories it holds for you. My best friend lives in America and we don't often get to talk either but I know she'll be there to listen if I need to talk and she knows I'll do the same for her. We're lucky to have friendships like this. Happy Christmas! x
